Å skrive litt i bloggen min.

Sokker, 22, 5 Degrees og Feather and Fan skjerf.

God helg!

Oh my, it has been a while since my last post! The summer went by in a hurry! I have been tidying up at my farm, doing lots of maintenance on the houses, and for the first time in about 10-12 years I actually had a holiday! (about time) We have been camping out with the kids, going to several mountains with the kids, and having a splendid time together , even if it has been raining a LOT this summer.
I went for a weeks trip up in the mountains by horse, and that was just….lets just say that I could have stayed up there for several weeks! 9 horses, 7 riders . I cant explain the sense of quietness and relaxation we had, rather take a look at some photos:

Now I am back at work, busy as ever, but I have started knitting again in the evenings, and it is about time to finish up my Weird&Twisted Curtain, spin up some more fiber, and just enjoy the autumn evenings!

My weaving project continues….and darnit – my warp was to short! (I will not quote what I actually said when I discovered this – I do swear occasionally…) But hey – just have to make another piece and put  them together some way. Need to weave about 40 cm more. This curtain is made with mostly yarns from Weird and Twisted, and I do believe I got the effect I was looking for. I’ll finish up the selvegdes , guess I’ll crochet all the way round, or find lace or such like.
Right now it looks like this (no, I haven’t cut the yarns and so on, this is fresh from the loom)

Can’t wait till I have made the necessary 40 cm, and finish this up – and then put it in my kitchen window!
Weaving is great fun using art yarns/handspun yarn, it gives nice texture – and it is fun planning!

Since I mostly used yarns from W&T: the name had to be  my Weird&Twisted Curtain!

Remember I joined a spinning-course in February? Well, my first attempts were….to be honest: awful! Hahaha! Here we go:

(No, they are not “art  yarns” – they are the yarns of a beginner, and obviously not a gifted one!)
But the thing is to practise, and I also bought me a new spinning wheel – I fell in love with the Majacraft Suzie Pro; and here is my second and third attempts – fiber from Posh:

The pinkish was my second , and the purple the third. I got better, hopefully.
Then my fourth go, with Gemmy Batts from Hobbledehoy:

A truly great fun spinning these  – colours make me happy!
The lovely blue yarns from Weird and Twisted found their way to my loom. Guess what this will become? (yes, I know my selvegdes are horrible, yes, I will do something about it later on) This is my new kitchen-curtain! Yes, you read right. I think I got the effect I wanted; weaving quite loose. Note to myself: NEVER EVER PUT SOMETHING MOHAIRISH INTO THE WARP. Bah. I have added some yarn from Wooldancer as well, this curtain is going to be quite long, but the rest of the yarn is from WeirdandTwisted.  200 cm to go. My kitchen window is 300 sm long.

Happy Easter Holiday!

Remember I got an Ashford Knitters Loom for X-mas? (Very happy, by the way!)
I have been trying out different yarns since then, figuring out what could work out (and not). Lets take a look at some of the results, shall we? I have been struggling hard trying to get decent photos, some became crappy no matter what, but hopefully you get an impression.
Here is a “test” piece made out of Posh yarn and Wollmeise. WM as the warp, and Posh as the weft:

That wasn’t too bad, I think. I’ll make something with this combination (this is just a tiny test piece) later on. Both sock yarns, using the 12,5″ reed.
Then I had a go with some hardcore art yarn from loop:

This piece is going to be a purse! (believe it or not) The picture shows half of it, it is actually twice as long. The yarn is superbulky, and I used some Fiesta yarn  with tencel as the warp - cause it was stroooong. Reed for this one: 5″

Then I used some yarn from Fabulosity and Coolclimates :
I haven’t the slightest idea what this will be, but it was fun weaving, just watching how it turned out.

Then I made this out of yarn from Wooldancer:

This will be a table-runner – my photo doesn’t show the great texture and colours on this one. You have to come over for a cup of tea – then you’ll see it IRL at my kitchen table!

I have some beautiful yarns from WeirdandTwisted that eventually will be a woven shawl or scarf.  I made a tiny, tiny piece:

I have to choose something else for the warp for these yarns, and another reed , this turned out to “tight” and “stiff”. I want something more “airy” out of these yarns – which by the way consists of my favourite blue colours.

As I mentioned previously: I have way too many items I have to finish up – I have been knitting mittens, a scarf, hats and  a neck ++ that is meant to redesign a dress! I love knitting…but I seem to lack the skill of the “final touch” ! Needtodosomethingaboutthat.

Guess what? On Friday I am off to Lillehammer – I am going to attend a course! I AM GOING TO LEARN HOW TO SPIN! Hooray! Edit: hopefully I am going to learn how to spin, but I am a newbie, so perhaps I shouldn’t be to optimistic?

Have a splendid week!

My stash has grown way out of proportions the last year, but to my defence: I do knit, and I do weave as well. Right now I have 8 different items that just lack the last finishing touch: a couple of stitches, some buttons, and soforth…I’ll post pictures when I manage to get them done. (at this speed, well…hopefully in February)
But anyway; in my stash there is yarn from several of the “well-known” . Lately I have found it really joyful to search for those new and/or not so “famous” (yet), perhaps some of them are wellknown to you, perhaps not? So here is a list over some of them, and a comment on what I found interesting!

workingthewool Looking for something else than Merino wool?  workingthewool   has handspun and handcoloured yarn from Dorset and Romney. This was a new experience for me, and I found these yarns to be really “wooly”! This yarn reminds me of the yarns my mum made from the wool of her own sheeps, lovely!

The Kangaroo Dyer : Gail Callahan; has the most stunning colours! Did you know that she just recently has written a book about handdying yarn? I have bought several yarns from her, and I have always been happy!

Moonrover has the coolest art yarn ! I am so happy to have ordered a skein of Clouds, waiting eagerly! Apart from Moonrover; I still get back to Weird&Twisted!

If you are looking for batts or roving: check out Loop - she is definitely not so unknown, but her batts are great!

The last seller hasnt anything to do with yarn, but vintage clothes, hats and purses. I couldnt help myself, I bought this one :

Isn’t it cuuuuuute?! I did not buy it to use it, I have put it up as a decoration among loads of horse-pictures! I found this one at Alleycatsvintage.

Allrightythen: now I have to get back to finishing up my pile of ” almost finished” stuff! Now, if anybody could tell me where the heck I put my sewing-machine?

For many, many years now – I considered X-mas as an event I disliked, for various reasons. But this year I am feeling this childish joy. I see my childrens happy faces, I feel another peace, and I am really looking forward to this holiday this time. For the first time in 12 years I will have the time off, not that I dislike working, but trying to handle two jobs the last 6 months has been stressful, + my MBA exams and my small farm on top of it all. (needtolearntosayNOandSTOP, will practise on that – my new years resolution!)
Apart from having a happy and peaceful time with my two kids and husband, I hopefully will spend some time doing this:

Knitters Loom

Yay! I ordered an Ashford Knitters Loom from The Alpaca Spinner , hopefully it will be here during the Christmas holidays.

I have plans for weaving something blue; using these yarns from Weird&Twisted:

That is all for today, see you soon!

008
Denne er i mønsteret Rib Fantastic av Barb Brown i “Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn”
Lue nr ørtogfjørti i mønster “strikker i vei etter eget hode”:
009

Lazy days means knitting, here is my Wollmeise projects, and two lovely skeins from HegdehogFibres. We visited PolarZoo, and my daughter had the chance to get a view of a deer pretty close. I am not fond of Zoos, but this one is one of the better, the animals have lots of space.
